Ron Sanfilippo
Providing the musical backdrop to the Newport scene Pianist Ron Sanfilippo grew up surfing on Newport's beaches, and listening to the legends of jazz at the famous Newport Jazz Festival. He also heard great music at many of the clubs and restaurants for which the city is so well known. It wasn't long before he was playing in those clubs, both as a solo pianist, and with many of the wonderful musicians he'd enjoyed listening to when he was younger. Growing up in the 60's Ron also heard the music of the Beatles, James Taylor, Billy Joel and all the outstanding artists of that era. His solo recording Now & Then successfully combines a jazz musicians sense of improvisation with the rhythms and melodies of more contemporary songwriters. In 1988 Ron finally achieved a lifelong dream, and got to perform at the Newport Jazz Festival. As a long time member of the East Bay Jazz Quartet, he had the good fortune to play with jazz/pop legend George Bens.
